San Antonio
about 100 miles (2 hours)
From downtown San Antonio, take Hwy 90 west for about an hour and 15 minutes out of San Antonio. You will go through Castroville, Hondo, and D'Hanis. When you get to Sabinal you will turn right at the only red light in town (FM127) and follow it for 20 miles to Concan. You'll come to US Hwy 83 just past Concan. Take a right on it, and go 17 miles to the Leakey city limits sign. Make a right at the blinking light (CR 1120). When you get to the first big curve to the right (1/5 mile or so), there'll be a fork that veers to the left. Take the fork, and you'll see the signs for Leakey Springs Cabins.
Take 290 west out of Austin to Fredricksburg. From there, take 16 to Kerrville. From Kerrville, there are 2 routes:
The fastest route is to take I-10 from Kerrville to Hwy 41. It is 18 miles toward Junction from Kerrville. Take 41 west for 22 miles to US Hwy 83. Turn left on 83 and go 27 miles straight south to Leakey. Go through town. At the south city limits there is a blinking light at FM 1120. Turn left on 1120 and go about 1/5 mile to the first big curve to the right. At that curve, there'll be a fork that veers to the left; take the fork to the left, and the cabins will be right there.
The more scenic route is as follows. Go in to Kerrville on Hwy 16 from Fredricksburg. When you get to Main or Water Street in Kerrville, turn right. These streets merge and become the old Junction Hwy. When you get to Ingram, stay in the left lane. At the light in Ingram, stay straight and that will become the beginning of Hwy 39. Stay on 39 until it dead ends into Hwy 83. Turn south on 83 and go to Leakey. At the south city limits sign (blinking light) turn left at the blinking light on to FM 1120. Go about 1/5 mile to the first big curve to the right. At that curve, there'll be a fork that veers to the left; take the fork to the left, and the cabins will be right there.
Shortest route with less traffic: Go west on I-20 to Fort Worth. Take Hwy 281 south to Stephenville. Take 377 to Dublin, Comanche, Brownwood and on to Brady. From there, take 190 to Menard. Go straight south on 83 from Menard to Junction and Leakey. As you go through Junction, you will actually be on I-10 for a short time. Watch carefully for the 83 exit to Uvalde and Leakey. Note that Uvalde is south of Leakey, but I believe that it's on the sign. Go through Leakey to the south city limits sign. There will be a blinking light at that sign. Turn left on FM 1120 and got 3 miles to River Haven. It will be on your right.
Longer route with more traffic: Go south on I-35 to Georgetown. Take 29 west to Burnet. Go south on 281 to Marble Falls and Johnson City. Take 290 to Fredricksburg. Take 16 to Kerrville. From Kerrville there are 2 routes to Leakey....
